Ethereum Foundation loses another top manager: co-executive director leaves post

Ethereum ETH Эфир 2025

The Ethereum Foundation continues a series of personnel changes at the top management level. The organization's co-executive director, Xiao-Wei Wang, has officially announced her departure from both the operational role and the foundation's board. The decision was made after completing a sabbatical she took to reassess her professional and personal goals.

In her statement, Wang emphasized that a reassessment of priorities was a key factor influencing this decision. She did not disclose specific plans for the future but noted that she intends to focus on projects that better align with her current values and life direction.

Wave of Departures in Ethereum Foundation Leadership

Wang's departure is not an isolated case but part of a broader trend. In February of this year, Tomasz Stańczak left a similar position as co-executive director, also deciding to step down after a long period of work with the organization. In response to this loss, Bastian Aue was appointed as interim co-executive director, who will now likely take on even more operational responsibilities.

Such reshuffles in the upper echelons of Ethereum Foundation management raise questions about the foundation's strategic stability. However, given the decentralized nature of the Ethereum ecosystem, these changes are unlikely to have an immediate impact on protocol development or the network's roadmap. Nevertheless, the loss of experienced managers could slow down decision-making on key administrative and financial matters.

My professional assessment: The departure of two co-executive directors within a few months is a warning sign for the internal culture of the Ethereum Foundation. While the network's technological progress remains strong, such personnel losses may indicate deeper issues in governance or the distribution of authority. The market should closely monitor how the new leadership team handles challenges, especially ahead of potential network upgrades.
