Ethereum Foundation loses key executive: Xiao-Wei Wang steps down
The Ethereum Foundation continues to undergo significant personnel changes. Co-Executive Director of the foundation, Xiao-Wei Wang, has officially announced her departure — both from the operational role and the board of directors. The decision was made after completing a sabbatical, and according to Wang herself, it is related to a reassessment of personal priorities and life goals.
This is already the second loss for the Ethereum Foundation's leadership in recent months. In February 2025, Tomasz Stańczak took a similar step, also stepping down from the role of co-executive director. As a temporary measure, Bastian Aue was appointed to this position, but the question of the organization's long-term management remains open.
Xiao-Wei Wang's departure is not just a personnel reshuffle. It is a signal that even in seemingly stable structures of the crypto industry, internal transformations are brewing. The Ethereum Foundation, traditionally perceived as a bastion of decentralized governance, faces the need to adapt to new realities and community demands.
My analysis: Such departures of key figures can be both a consequence of personal decisions and a reflection of deeper strategic disagreements within the foundation. For the Ethereum ecosystem, this means temporary uncertainty in matters of coordination and development funding. However, with a competent approach to succession, the Ethereum Foundation can not only maintain stability but also emerge from this phase renewed — with a more flexible and modern governance structure.
