The Ethereum Foundation loses its second co-executive director: Xiao-Wei Wang leaves the organization
The Ethereum Foundation continues to experience personnel changes. Xiao-Wei Wang, who served as co-executive director and was a member of the foundation's board, has announced her departure. The decision was made after a period of sabbatical leave and, according to her, is related to a reassessment of personal priorities.
This is already the second instance of a key executive leaving the organization in 2025. In February, Tomasz Stańczak left a similar position, which served as a warning sign for the community. In response, Bastian Aue was appointed interim co-executive director, but the foundation now faces the task of finding a replacement for the second top manager as well.
The departure of Xiao-Wei Wang is not just a personnel rotation. It is evidence of deep-seated processes within the Ethereum Foundation, which is facing the need to adapt to new challenges in a rapidly changing market. The organization responsible for developing the world's second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization is losing experienced leaders, which could impact the pace of decision-making and strategic planning.
From my perspective, the current situation requires the Ethereum Foundation not only to quickly hire a replacement but also to reconsider its internal governance structure. The concentration of power and responsibility on the shoulders of just a few individuals makes the foundation vulnerable. The community expects more transparent and resilient mechanisms that will help avoid similar crises in the future.
