Ethereum Foundation loses key executive: Xiao-Wei Wang steps down

Ethereum ETH Efir 2025

The Ethereum Foundation continues to experience a period of organizational change. Co-Executive Director of the foundation, Xiao-Wei Wang, has officially announced her departure from both the leadership team and the organization's board of directors. This decision was made after completing a sabbatical, which apparently allowed her to reassess her future career priorities.

In her statement, Wang emphasized that the departure is solely due to personal circumstances and a reevaluation of life goals. It is currently unknown who will fill the vacant position and how this will affect the distribution of operational responsibilities within the foundation.

Leadership Turbulence

Wang's departure is already the second significant personnel loss for the Ethereum Foundation in recent months. In February, Tomasz Stańczak, who also held the position of co-executive director, left a similar post. After his departure, Bastian Aue was appointed interim co-executive director, who will likely now take on even more responsibility.

Such turnover at the highest management level raises questions about the organization's internal stability, especially ahead of important technological updates to the Ethereum network. Cohesive leadership is critical for coordinating the efforts of developers and the community.

My analysis: The departure of two co-executive directors in a short period is not just a coincidence. It signals potential internal disagreements or a shift in strategic direction. Investors and ETH holders should closely monitor future appointments: the effectiveness of managing one of the world's largest blockchain foundations will depend on who replaces Wang.
