Ethereum Foundation loses key executive: Xiao-Wei Wang steps down

Ethereum ETH Efir 2025

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) continues to experience turbulence in its leadership. Co-Executive Director of the foundation, Xiao-Wei Wang, has officially announced her departure from both her position and the organization's board. This decision was made after the completion of a sabbatical, which apparently gave her time to reassess her career priorities.

In her statement, Wang emphasized that a reassessment of personal goals was a key factor in this move. For me, this signals that even in the most stable and decentralized structures, such as the EF, human factors and individual ambitions can lead to significant changes in governance.

This departure is not an isolated incident but part of a broader trend of personnel changes within the foundation. Back in February of this year, Tomasz Stańczak, who also held the position of co-executive director, left a similar role. As a temporary measure, Bastian Aue was appointed to the vacant position, indicating an attempt by the EF to maintain operational stability amid the turnover of key figures.

For me as an analyst, these changes call into question the current governance model of the Ethereum Foundation. Although the foundation is known for its resilience and ability to adapt, the loss of two high-level leaders within a few months could slow down strategic decision-making and affect coordination with protocol developers. In the near future, the community will be closely watching how the EF plans to structure its leadership in the long term to avoid a power vacuum.
