Mining giant HIVE transforms: $220 million GPU contract changes the game

Betting on Efficiency: How Miners Adapt to New Realities of ASIC Mining Crypto Bitcoin

The high-performance computing (HPC) market continues to reshape traditional business models in the crypto industry. A vivid confirmation of this is the decision by BUZZ HPC, a subsidiary of HIVE Digital Technologies, which has entered into a three-year agreement to provide cloud GPU services. The contract, signed with Bell Canada and the Cohere platform, is valued at approximately $220 million.

Under the terms of the deal, BUZZ HPC will deploy 2,304 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell graphics processors at the Bell AI Fabric facility located in British Columbia, Canada. The launch of these capacities is scheduled for late 2026 to early 2027. This is a strategic move that fundamentally changes HIVE's revenue structure: the company forecasts that its annualized contractual recurring revenue will grow to approximately $70 million, doubling its current figure of $35 million.

From a fundamental analysis perspective, this is not just business expansion but risk diversification. Miners, traditionally dependent on Bitcoin's volatility and network difficulty, are increasingly transitioning to the HPC and artificial intelligence segment. HIVE is pioneering this shift, transforming its data center into a high-yield infrastructure for AI giants. The use of NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs is a bet on energy efficiency and performance, which is critical for cloud workloads.

My expert assessment: This contract signals that the future of mining companies lies not in cryptocurrency mining but in providing computing power for AI. HIVE demonstrates how infrastructure built for Bitcoin can be repurposed for more stable and long-term revenue sources. If this model proves successful, we will see a wave of similar deals among other public miners.
