Scheme exposed: scammer turned himself in by seeking help from ZachXBT with frozen bitcoins
A telling incident has occurred in the world of cryptocurrency analytics, demonstrating that even experienced criminals can make fatal mistakes. Renowned on-chain detective ZachXBT encountered a situation where a suspect involved in a theft reached out to him for help, inadvertently revealing their involvement in the crime.
How the Scammer Fell into Their Own Trap
A user under the pseudonym AmanKesar11 contacted ZachXBT complaining about the "unfair" freezing of 5.73 BTC (approximately $475,000) on the Changelly platform. However, the detective's analysis of the transaction immediately revealed red flags. The check showed that these funds originated from a chain of illegal operations, including social engineering thefts targeting US residents, including retirees. The perpetrators used US exchanges and Bitcoin ATMs to withdraw the stolen funds.
According to ZachXBT's estimates, the entire criminal network associated with this case has netted scammers over $1 million since 2025. The 5.73 BTC themselves were frozen on Changelly back in March 2025 — which is precisely what prompted the suspect to seek help. Their explanations for the origin of the funds constantly changed: from a loan and money from a boss to supposedly the boss's investments in Bitcoin "in 2014 and 2015" through an acquaintance in the US. Notably, in December 2025, the suspect even filed a complaint with the Indian police about the freeze, attempting to give their actions an appearance of legality.
Structure of the Criminal Group
During the correspondence, AmanKesar11 sent screenshots of emails that allowed ZachXBT to reconstruct the structure of the entire group. The detective concluded that the suspect is merely an intermediary through whom funds are laundered for a boss under the pseudonym "Mr Parveen." The key piece of evidence was the bank statements sent by the suspect themselves, which turned out to be in someone else's name and at a different address.
This incident serves as an important reminder: in the cryptocurrency environment, where anonymity is often taken for granted, carelessness and overconfidence can lead to the complete exposure of a criminal scheme. ZachXBT has once again demonstrated that even asking for help can backfire on a perpetrator, leading to their unmasking.
Expert Opinion: This case clearly illustrates that attempts to regain access to funds obtained through illegal means are not just a request for help, but a direct transfer of evidence into the hands of an analyst. For participants in such schemes, this should be a signal: any interaction with the community, especially with professionals like ZachXBT, carries enormous risk. The market is becoming increasingly transparent, and old money laundering methods are ceasing to work.
