A new wave of crypto fraud in Russia: fake access to exchange trading

A new, well-coordinated fraudulent scheme has been recorded in Russia's cryptocurrency market. Scammers are offering citizens to purchase digital assets for rubles at the fixed exchange rate of the Central Bank, using the legend of a non-existent "closed gateway" of the Moscow Exchange as bait.

How the deception works

The attack mechanism is standard for social engineering but adapted to the current market context. Scammers, posing as accredited brokers or technical partners of the exchange, conduct mass mailings of targeted advertising and personal messages. The victim is promised a unique opportunity to buy top coins at a favorable rate through special "test stands." However, as soon as the user shows interest, they are redirected via a link to a phishing site that supposedly leads to this closed gateway.

As a result of entering personal data and, likely, bank card details, the investor completely loses their savings. It is important to emphasize: no closed platforms with super-favorable conditions for individuals exist. This is pure fiction, designed to create artificial scarcity and push the victim into rash actions.

Position of the Moscow Exchange and market reality

Specialists from the Moscow Exchange, together with other market participants, are actively combating this type of fraud, regularly identifying and blocking malicious websites and phone numbers. Official testing and trading are conducted exclusively through licensed Russian brokers, the full register of which is publicly available on the Bank of Russia's website. It is only possible to legally work with exchange instruments through these official participants.

Cryptalist Analytics

This scheme is a vivid example of how scammers exploit the low financial literacy of the population combined with the hype around cryptocurrencies. Using the name of the Central Bank and the Moscow Exchange gives the fake offer a false aura of legitimacy. The only reliable protection is critical thinking and verifying information exclusively through official sources. Avoid hasty investment decisions, do not succumb to the pressure of promises of high returns and artificially created time constraints. There are no "secret doors" for quick enrichment in the market.
