Anthropic has completed training a new AI model: the successor to Mythos 5 is ready, but its fate remains unclear.
Insider information from analyst Andrew Curran indicates that Anthropic has completed training a new, more powerful artificial intelligence model, which could become a direct successor to the Mythos line. This system reportedly surpasses the recently unveiled Mythos 5 in capabilities. However, no official confirmation from Anthropic has been received yet—neither the name, specifications, nor even the existence of this model have been disclosed.
According to Curran, the new model may be released under the name Mythos 5.1 or Mythos 6, but a scenario where the company keeps the development for internal use is also possible. This statement came exactly nine days after export restrictions from U.S. authorities forced Anthropic to suspend work on the Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models.
Political Pressure and Technological Progress
Recall that on June 12, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick sent a directive to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, citing national security concerns. The restrictions affected all foreign nationals, including company employees born outside the United States. As a result, Anthropic was forced to disable both models worldwide.
Notably, authorities discovered a way to bypass the security mechanisms of Fable 5. After reviewing the demonstration, Anthropic acknowledged the vulnerability but emphasized that such demands could block the release of new models across the entire industry. Curran believes that blocking development is unlikely to slow progress—on the contrary, it could accelerate it by freeing up resources. As an example, he cites open models like GLM-5.2 from Z.ai, which handle programming tasks no worse than significantly more expensive closed counterparts.
