Ripple receives preliminary approval for CASP license in Luxembourg: a new stage of European expansion

Ripple has taken a significant step in strengthening its presence in the European market by receiving preliminary approval for a CASP license (Crypto Asset Service Provider) in Luxembourg. This document, issued in the form of a so-called "Green Light Letter," is an intermediate stage: to obtain a full license, the company must fulfill a number of additional regulatory requirements.
This initiative is not just a formality, but a strategic move that will allow Ripple Payments to reach a new level of regulated services. Upon full approval of the license, the company will be able to offer legal crypto-asset and stablecoin payment services to banks, fintech startups, and corporations across 30 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA).
It is important to note that the CASP license will complement Ripple's existing European EMI license (Electronic Money Institution). This creates a powerful combined base for working with both traditional fiat and digital assets. According to the company, the volume of transactions through Ripple Payments has already exceeded $100 billion, covering more than 60 markets worldwide.
My Professional Perspective
Receiving preliminary approval is a positive signal for the market, but its significance should not be overstated. The "Green Light Letter" is more an indicator of trust from the regulator than a ready-made tool for scaling. However, if Ripple successfully completes the process, it will become a serious asset in the competition for corporate clients in Europe, especially amid the growing regulation of stablecoins under MiCA.
