Ripple receives preliminary approval for CASP license in Luxembourg: a step towards European expansion

Ripple continues to strengthen its position in the European regulatory landscape. The company has received preliminary approval for a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from Luxembourg's financial regulator. This document, issued in the form of a so-called "Green Light Letter," is not yet a final license — Ripple must fulfill a number of additional requirements to complete the process.

After full approval, the Ripple Payments platform will be able to provide regulated crypto asset and stablecoin processing services to banks, fintech companies, and corporations in 30 countries of the European Economic Area. This is an important step that will complement Ripple's existing European EMI (Electronic Money Institution) license.

It is worth noting that the scale of Ripple's operations is impressive: according to the company, over $100 billion has already been processed through Ripple Payments across more than 60 markets worldwide. Obtaining the CASP license will not only legalize these flows in the EU but also significantly expand the client base by attracting European institutional players.

Analytical commentary: Luxembourg is traditionally considered one of the most progressive regulatory hubs in Europe for fintech. Receiving preliminary approval here signals a high level of trust in Ripple from European authorities. However, it is worth remembering that the "Green Light Letter" is just the beginning of the journey. If Ripple successfully passes the final review, it could become a powerful catalyst for the adoption of XRP and stablecoins in the corporate and banking sectors of the EU, especially amid the implementation of MiCA.
