US Crypto-PAC: $8 Million for Primaries — A Signal of a New Political Force

Political committees linked to the cryptocurrency industry have demonstrated their growing financial power, spending over $8 million on media support for candidates ahead of the June 23 primaries in key states — New York, Maryland, and Utah. This is not just a number, but a clear signal: the crypto community is ready to influence political processes at a systemic level.
The bulk of the spending came from the Protect Progress committee, affiliated with the well-known super-PAC Fairshake. According to my data, Protect Progress directed over $5.5 million to support Adrian Boafo in Maryland's 5th congressional district and another $1.4 million in favor of Ritchie Torres in New York's 15th district. These amounts are comparable to the campaign budgets of many seasoned politicians, underscoring the seriousness of the crypto lobby's intentions.
The reaction from opponents was swift. Boafo's rivals openly called on him to reject external support, labeling these infusions as "spending by crypto billionaires" and a tool of "special interests." However, in my view, such rhetoric only demonstrates a misunderstanding that the crypto industry seeks legitimization and protection of its rights, not the undermining of democratic processes.
My analysis: Such investments are a strategic move. Crypto-PACs are not just buying loyalty; they are creating a precedent where future lawmakers will be forced to consider the sector's interests. If this trend continues, by the next election we will see even more aggressive funding, and the crypto industry will become a full-fledged player on the U.S. political stage.
