Crypto-PACs have directed over $8 million towards media campaigns ahead of the US primaries.

USA США

Political committees linked to the cryptocurrency industry have reported spending over $8 million on media support for candidates ahead of primaries scheduled for June 23 in the states of New York, Maryland, and Utah. The lion's share of these funds went to the Protect Progress committee, affiliated with the super-PAC Fairshake.

Major Investments and Key Candidates

Protect Progress allocated more than $5.5 million to support Adrian Boafo in Maryland's 5th congressional district. Another $1.4 million was directed toward Ritchie Torres's campaign in New York's 15th district. These investments have drawn sharp criticism from Boafo's opponents, who publicly called on him to reject outside funding, labeling it "spending by crypto billionaires and other special interests."

Analytical Perspective

Such an aggressive media strategy demonstrates that the crypto industry is increasingly using political levers to lobby its interests at the federal level. Investments in primaries are not just about supporting friendly candidates but represent a long-term bet on shaping a favorable regulatory environment. I expect that by the November elections, the volume of such spending could double, especially if key bills on crypto market regulation remain stalled.
