Germany bets on quantum sensors: SPRIND launches two funding programs

Germany is strengthening its position in the quantum technology race. The German Agency for Breakthrough Innovations (SPRIND) has announced the launch of two support programs aimed at developing projects in the field of quantum sensors. These are devices that use quantum effects for measurements with unprecedented precision — in navigation, climate monitoring, and industry.

The first program focuses on applied scenarios: from creating prototypes to implementation in real economic sectors. The second targets fundamental research: new measurement methods and the development of quantum systems themselves. Applications are accepted until September 6.

Participating teams will receive not only direct funding but also mentorship, as well as access to industry contacts, which is critical for commercializing such complex technologies. SPRIND, known for its flexibility and focus on high-risk innovation, is clearly aiming to create an ecosystem capable of competing with market leaders — the US and China.

Analytical commentary: Quantum sensors represent a "quiet revolution" that could transform logistics, defense, and even the financial sector before full-fledged quantum computers do. Germany is betting on practical utility rather than abstract computing. For the crypto industry, this is a signal: precision in timing and navigation is critical for synchronizing blockchain networks and DeFi protocols. If quantum sensors become cheaper, we will see their integration into hardware wallets and mining equipment.
