Germany is betting on quantum sensors: applications for funding are now open

The German Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations (SPRIND) has announced the launch of two new support programs aimed at developing quantum sensors. These devices, which leverage fundamental quantum effects for ultra-precise measurements, open new horizons in navigation, climate monitoring, and industrial automation.
Applications are accepted until September 6. The first program focuses on commercially applicable scenarios—from improving positioning systems to quality control in manufacturing. The second, more fundamental program supports the development of entirely new measurement methods and quantum systems that could form the basis for next-generation technologies.
Selected teams will receive not only direct funding but also access to expertise from leading industry specialists, mentoring support, and valuable contacts within the industry. This is an important step for strengthening Europe's technological sovereignty in the field of quantum technologies.
Quantum sensors are not just an evolution but a revolution in precision. Unlike quantum computers, which remain an experimental niche for now, sensors are already demonstrating practical value. Their ability to measure gravitational fields, magnetic forces, and time intervals with unprecedented accuracy could radically transform logistics, geological exploration, and even security systems.
Analyst's opinion: The SPRIND initiative is a signal for the market. Germany recognizes that quantum sensors will become the next "bottleneck" in the high-tech chain. Investors and startups should take a close look at this area: there is less hype here than in quantum computing, but significantly higher potential for rapid monetization.
