Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation SPRIND is launching two parallel support programs for projects related to quantum sensors. This is a strategic move that could fundamentally change the landscape of precision measurements in industry and scientific research.

Quantum sensors are devices that leverage fundamental quantum effects, such as superposition and entanglement, to achieve previously unattainable accuracy. Unlike quantum computers, which are still far from widespread application, sensors are already capable of solving practical problems: from ultra-precise positioning in navigation systems to monitoring climate changes at the level of individual atoms.

Applications for both programs are open until September 6. The first program focuses on specific application scenarios — for example, improving industrial sensors or creating new medical diagnostic tools. The second program targets fundamental research: developing new measurement methods and quantum systems that could form the basis for next-generation technologies.

Participants will receive not only direct funding but also access to an expert network of mentors and industry contacts critical for commercialization. This means Germany is not just awarding grants but building a full-fledged ecosystem around quantum technologies.

Expert commentary: Quantum sensors are the segment of quantum technology that is already delivering real economic value, unlike quantum computing, where a commercial breakthrough is still years away. Germany is betting on a "quiet revolution" of precision, and this move could give it a significant technological advantage in the race for leadership in high-tech industry.
