Thailand has issued a wanted notice for a Chinese businessman for organizing an illegal mining farm.

Thai law enforcement authorities have officially issued an arrest warrant for Chinese entrepreneur Wang Yicheng. He is suspected of organizing a large-scale underground cryptocurrency mining network that operated in gross violation of local legislation.

An investigation conducted by the Department of Special Investigations has revealed the serious scale of the illegal activity. According to the investigation, the mining infrastructure consumed electricity stolen from state power grids. The amount of damage from the theft of energy resources is estimated at approximately $28 million.

However, the theft of electricity is just the tip of the iceberg. The operation was also used to launder proceeds from online fraud and illegal gambling. This indicates that the mining farm served not merely as a tool for cryptocurrency mining, but was part of a more complex financial scheme to legitimize criminal capital.

In November of this year, Wang Yicheng was formally charged under two articles: theft of state property (electricity) and violation of the Computer Crimes Act. The investigation believes that the suspect has already left Thailand, which significantly complicates the process of his arrest.

Analytical commentary: This case is a vivid illustration of the growing trend toward the criminalization of mining in countries with cheap electricity. Authorities are increasingly viewing illegal farms not just as tariff violators, but as full-fledged channels for money laundering. Investors should be more cautious about jurisdictions where mining activities are conducted without transparent licensing and energy consumption oversight — the risks of criminal prosecution there are extremely high.
