Thailand has issued a wanted notice for a Chinese businessman for organizing an illegal mining network.

Thai law enforcement authorities have issued an official arrest warrant for Chinese citizen Wang Yicheng, who is suspected of organizing a large-scale illegal crypto mining scheme. The Kingdom's Department of Special Investigation classifies this case as one of the largest in the field of energy crimes related to digital assets.

Damage in the Tens of Millions of Dollars

The investigation has established that a network of mining farms controlled by Wang Yicheng illegally connected to the country's power grids and stole electricity worth approximately $28 million. The resources obtained in this way were used for cryptocurrency mining, and the proceeds were subsequently laundered through fictitious schemes linked to scam projects and online gambling.

In November of this year, Wang Yicheng was already officially charged with theft of energy resources and violations of computer crime legislation. However, investigators believe the suspect managed to leave Thailand before the arrest warrant was executed. His current whereabouts are unknown, and authorities are actively cooperating with international partners to determine his location.

Analytical Commentary

This case is a stark reminder that the rapid growth of the crypto industry in the Asia-Pacific region creates new risks for energy infrastructure. Mining remains one of the most energy-intensive processes in blockchain, and the lack of strict control over grid connections inevitably leads to such precedents. In my view, Thai regulators should expect a tightening of the regulatory framework for industrial mining—it is only a matter of time.
