Thailand has issued a wanted notice for a Chinese businessman in connection with a large-scale illegal mining case.

Thai law enforcement authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Chinese citizen Wang Yicheng, suspected of organizing a large-scale illegal crypto mining network. This case has attracted regional attention due to the scale of resource theft and the complex money laundering scheme involved.
Millions of Dollars in Damages
According to the investigation, the criminal group illegally connected to power grids and stole electricity worth approximately $28 million. These resources were used for cryptocurrency mining, as well as for laundering proceeds from fraudulent schemes and online gambling. In November, Wang Yicheng was formally charged with theft and violations of the Computer Crimes Act.
Fugitive and International Manhunt
The investigation believes the suspect has already left Thailand. In response, authorities have intensified international cooperation to apprehend him. Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is coordinating with Interpol and law enforcement agencies from other countries.
Analytical Commentary
This case is a stark example of how the rapid growth of the crypto industry in Southeast Asia creates fertile ground for shadow operations. Regional authorities are tightening control over energy consumption by mining farms, but criminals continue to find loopholes. I expect that in the coming months, we will see a wave of similar exposés in Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, where illegal mining is becoming a serious threat to power grids.
