Thailand has issued a wanted notice for a Chinese businessman for organizing an illegal mining farm.

Thai law enforcement has issued an arrest warrant for Chinese citizen Wang Yicheng, suspected of organizing a large-scale underground cryptocurrency mining network. The case involves the illegal use of electricity amounting to approximately $28 million.

According to the investigation, the mining infrastructure operated exclusively on stolen resources. Moreover, the same network was used to launder funds obtained from fraudulent schemes and illegal online gambling. In November of this year, Wang Yicheng was charged with theft and violations of computer crime legislation.

Currently, investigators believe the suspect has already left Thailand. This complicates the extradition process and raises questions about the possibility of his prompt arrest.

Cryptalist Analysis: This case serves as yet another reminder that cryptocurrency mining, despite its legality in many jurisdictions, remains a high-risk area in terms of energy consumption. Theft of electricity on such a scale not only causes enormous damage to state infrastructure but also undermines the reputation of the entire industry. Investors should be more cautious about projects that cannot transparently verify the origin of their operational resources.
