Thai law enforcement agencies have intensified their fight against illegal cryptocurrency infrastructure. The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has issued an arrest warrant for Chinese citizen Wang Yicheng, who is suspected of organizing a large-scale illegal mining scheme.

According to the investigation, the criminal network allegedly led by Wang Yicheng was involved in stealing electricity worth approximately $28 million. The stolen resources were used to power cryptocurrency mining operations. Additionally, it was discovered that the same infrastructure was used to launder proceeds from online fraud and gambling.

In November of this year, the businessman was formally charged with theft and violations of computer crime laws. However, according to investigators, the suspect has already left Thailand, significantly complicating his capture.

This case is far from isolated. Thai authorities regularly face the problem of illegal mining, which damages the national power grid. Such schemes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and their organizers more mobile, requiring regulators to take faster and more coordinated action at the international level.

Analytical commentary: This incident once again demonstrates that the cryptocurrency industry faces serious reputational risks due to the actions of unscrupulous participants. Cases of large-scale electricity theft undermine trust in mining as a legitimate business and provide regulators with additional arguments to tighten control. The industry urgently needs to implement transparent mechanisms for verifying energy sources; otherwise, such precedents will only multiply.
