Thailand has issued a wanted notice for a Chinese businessman for organizing an illegal mining network.

Thai law enforcement authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Chinese citizen Wang Yicheng, suspected of organizing a large-scale illegal cryptocurrency mining scheme. According to the Department of Special Investigation, the criminal network has been illegally consuming electricity worth approximately $28 million over an extended period.

Money Laundering Scheme and Cybercrime

According to the investigation, in addition to resource theft, the group used the proceeds to launder income from scam projects and illegal online gambling. In November of this year, Wang Yicheng was officially charged with "theft" and "violation of the Computer Crime Act." Law enforcement now believes the suspect has already left Thailand.

Notably, this case is not an isolated incident in the region. In recent years, Southeast Asian authorities have increasingly pursued organizers of underground mining farms that cause serious damage to power grids. Electricity theft remains one of the main risks for legitimate market participants, as such incidents undermine trust in the industry and provoke stricter regulation.

Expert commentary: Such cases demonstrate that crypto mining is no longer a "gray area," even in countries with relatively liberal approaches. Investors and equipment operators should prepare for the fight against illegal energy consumption to become a top priority for regulators worldwide. Legalization and transparency of operations are the only path to sustainable development in this sector.
