Thailand has issued a wanted notice for a Chinese businessman in connection with an illegal crypto farm case.
Thai law enforcement authorities have intensified their crackdown on shadow crypto mining, issuing an official arrest warrant for Chinese entrepreneur Wang Yicheng. The case involves a large underground mining network that caused serious economic damage to the state.
Scale of Electricity Theft and Money Laundering
According to the investigation, the organized group used stolen electricity worth approximately $28 million to power cryptocurrency mining operations. This is one of the largest energy resource thefts in the country's history, recorded by Thailand's Department of Special Investigation. In addition to direct theft, the network is suspected of laundering funds obtained from scam projects and illegal online gambling.
Charges and Status of the Accused
In November of this year, Wang Yicheng was officially charged with theft and violations of the Computer Crimes Act. The investigation has data indicating that the businessman has already left Thailand, complicating his arrest. Measures are currently being taken to determine his whereabouts and possible extradition.
Analytical Commentary: This incident highlights the growing concern of Southeast Asian regulators over the illegal use of energy resources for mining. Thai authorities are demonstrating a willingness to pursue the organizers of such schemes at the international level, creating serious risks for investors involved in the gray areas of the crypto industry. I expect this case to set a precedent for tightening control over industrial mining in the region.
