Thailand has issued a wanted notice for a Chinese businessman for illegal mining and theft of electricity.

Thai authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Chinese entrepreneur Wang Yicheng, suspected of organizing a large-scale illegal cryptocurrency mining network. This case has drawn international attention due to the record-breaking scale of energy theft.

According to the investigation, the criminal group used stolen electricity worth approximately $28 million. The proceeds from mining were subsequently laundered through schemes involving online gambling and fraudulent projects. In November, Wang Yicheng was charged with theft and violations of computer crime laws.

The investigation suggests that the suspect has already left Thai territory, complicating his arrest. Thailand's Department of Special Investigations has intensified international cooperation to track down the businessman.

Cryptalist Analysis: This case highlights the growing trend of criminalization of mining activities in countries with cheap electricity. Illegal mining farms are becoming a serious threat to energy systems, and authorities are increasingly implementing control mechanisms. Investors and mining operators should consider regulatory risks, especially in jurisdictions where cryptocurrency legislation is still being developed.
