Qblox and HPE join forces to create hybrid computing systems

Dutch company Qblox, specializing in developing control systems for quantum processors, has announced a strategic partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). This collaboration plans to integrate Qblox hardware with HPE's high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructures.

The main goal of the alliance is to create specialized testbeds for developing and optimizing quantum algorithms, ensuring software compatibility, and conducting system benchmarking of hybrid classical-quantum systems. This will accelerate the transition from theoretical research to practical applications where quantum computing complements traditional methods.

Hybrid computing is seen as a key stage on the path to full-scale quantum computing. Instead of completely replacing classical computers, quantum processors take on highly specialized tasks, such as optimization or modeling complex molecular structures, while HPC systems handle the rest of the data processing.

A Practical Perspective on the Partnership

The collaboration between Qblox and HPE is not just an experiment but a strategic move aimed at creating commercially viable hybrid solutions. Integrating Qblox quantum controllers with HPE's proven HPC infrastructure could become the first real example of quantum accelerators being embedded into standard data centers. This is particularly important for the financial sector, pharmaceuticals, and logistics, where even a slight advantage in computation speed yields enormous economic benefits.

In my view, the success of this project will depend on how quickly the partners can solve the problem of "noise" in quantum computing and ensure stable operation of hybrid systems under real-world conditions. If the testbeds show convincing results, we will witness the beginning of a new era in computing.
