Qblox and HPE join forces to advance hybrid computing

Dutch company Qblox, specializing in developing control systems for quantum processors, has announced a strategic partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). The main goal of the collaboration is to integrate Qblox's quantum hardware with HPE's high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructures.

As part of the cooperation, the parties intend to create testbeds for algorithm testing, ensuring software compatibility, and conducting system benchmarking of hybrid classical-quantum systems. This will accelerate the transition from theoretical research to practical applications, where quantum computing will work in tandem with traditional HPC solutions.

The hybrid approach is one of the most promising in the modern quantum industry. It allows leveraging the strengths of both paradigms: quantum processors are effective for solving a narrow class of problems (e.g., optimization and cryptography), while classical systems provide stability and scalability for other computations.

For HPE, this is not the first step into the quantum ecosystem: the company is already actively investing in the development of quantum accelerators and cloud services. However, the partnership with Qblox, known for its modular and scalable controllers, could be key to creating commercially viable hybrid solutions.

My expert assessment: Integrating quantum hardware with existing HPC infrastructure is not just a technical challenge but a matter of survival for many quantum startups. Without close integration with classical systems, quantum processors risk remaining merely expensive scientific toys. Qblox and HPE are betting on practical compatibility, which could become a catalyst for the mass adoption of hybrid computing within the next 2–3 years.
