Anthropic lifts restrictions: Claude Mythos 5 gets the "green light" for 100 organizations, Fable 5 on the horizon

On Friday, the U.S. Department of Commerce officially lifted the export ban on Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 model. This decision opens access to one of the most powerful AI systems for more than 100 American organizations, including leading corporations and government agencies.

This step was the result of a two-week standoff between the Trump administration and Anthropic's leadership. Previously, the export of Mythos 5 was blocked due to national security concerns. However, now, as Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated in a letter to Anthropic's Chief Technology Officer Tom Brown, the model can be transferred to companies and agencies from a special list — Appendix A — without the need for a separate license.

Mythos 5: Return After Review

Until now, Mythos 5 was used exclusively within the Glasswing program — a vulnerability search project involving about 150 organizations from more than 15 countries. Notably, this model previously identified critical errors in classified systems within hours during government testing.

Remarkably, the restrictions were lifted after one of Anthropic's largest investors — Amazon — expressed concerns about the safety of the Mythos and Fable models. The company's researchers warned that Fable 5 could be hacked for potentially dangerous purposes.

Fable 5: Awaiting Approval

Unlike Mythos, the fate of Fable 5 remains uncertain. According to information close to the negotiation process, the model's release has moved forward, but specific timelines have not yet been announced. Previously, Fable 5 was available to all subscribers and was considered the most powerful public AI tool.

The situation is developing against the backdrop of a new regulatory system being formed. On June 2, an executive order was signed that opens a voluntary channel for federal review of advanced AI models. Developers can submit their solutions for cybersecurity checks 30 days before launch.

Global Context and Consequences

Washington continues to tighten control over the export of AI technologies, especially to China. OpenAI has also followed this path, restricting access to the most powerful version of GPT-5.6, named Sol, to about 20 partners who received state approval. Weaker versions, Terra and Luna, have become available to the general public.

Countries in Europe and other regions have already noted that they are heavily dependent on Washington's decisions regarding access to new developments. Whether Fable 5 will receive similar approvals will become clear in the coming days.

My analysis: Lifting restrictions on Mythos 5 is not just a technical decision, but a clear signal to the market. The Trump administration is demonstrating that it is ready to support American AI leaders, but only under the condition of full control over the spread of technology. For the crypto industry, where AI models are increasingly used for blockchain analysis and vulnerability detection, this means that access to the most powerful tools will be strictly regulated by the state.
