Coinbase Ventures led the ranking of crypto investors in the first half of the year: 30 deals and leadership amid a bearish trend

Analysts at CryptoRank have summarized the activity of crypto venture funds for the first half of 2026, and the results are quite telling. Coinbase Ventures confidently took first place in the number of deals closed, completing 30 investment rounds. This is a significant lead over its closest competitors: Animoca Brands closed 19 deals, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) — 18, and Tether — 15.

This level of activity by Coinbase Ventures against the backdrop of a general market downturn is impressive. The exchange's venture arm clearly demonstrates a strategic commitment to long-term investments, despite the unfavorable market conditions. However, the overall picture of sector financing looks less optimistic.

The volume of crypto funding in June 2026 fell to $1.4 billion — a sharp drop from the $3.8 billion recorded in April of the same year. The number of unique investors also decreased: from 452 in October 2025 to 242 in June 2026. The bear market continues to cool capital appetites, forcing funds to act more selectively.

Nevertheless, Coinbase Ventures' leadership underscores that even amid declining overall liquidity, major players see opportunities to expand their portfolios. In my professional opinion, such an aggressive strategy could pay off in the next cycle when the market turns upward — but only if the selected projects have real fundamental value, rather than simply riding on hype.
