Strategic Maneuver: Strategy Sold Shares Worth $466.7 Million Without Touching Bitcoin Reserve
Last week, from July 6 to July 12, Strategy executed a large-scale open market transaction, selling 4.82 million shares of MSTR. The proceeds from this operation amounted to an impressive $466.7 million. The data on the issuance and sale of securities were officially recorded in Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
It is important to emphasize: despite such a significant influx of liquidity, the company did not make any additional purchases of bitcoin. Strategy's dollar reserve increased by $450 million, reaching the $3 billion mark. At the same time, the cryptocurrency portfolio remained unchanged — 843,775 BTC, with an average purchase price of $75,476.
Such a strategy of accumulating a fiat reserve without simultaneously increasing the bitcoin position is a rare but telling move. This could indicate two scenarios: either the company is preparing for a major acquisition of the digital asset at a more favorable price, or it is building a "safety cushion" to cover operating expenses or potential debt obligations. In any case, the current balance sheet structure demonstrates management's high level of confidence in the long-term potential of the first cryptocurrency.
Expert opinion: From my point of view, accumulating $3 billion in fiat without buying bitcoin is a signal that Strategy's management expects a temporary market decline or wants to use more flexible instruments to enter a position. Ignoring current BTC prices with such a volume of free funds looks like a display of discipline, not a lack of interest. The market should closely monitor the company's next move — it will determine whether this pause was tactical or strategic.
