MegaETH shuts down the Mega Mafia accelerator: the ecosystem loses talent
The L2 solution MegaETH has officially closed its accelerator program, Mega Mafia, after two years of operation. Project co-founder Shuyao Kong confirmed that a new cohort will not be launched. During its operation, the accelerator supported around 20 teams, which collectively raised approximately $80 million.
According to Kong, the key reason for the closure is the migration of the most successful applications outside the MegaETH ecosystem. The project team now intends to focus its efforts on developing its own products, abandoning external incubation initiatives.
Analysis: MegaETH's decision demonstrates the classic dilemma of L2 ecosystems: startups that receive funding and support often leave the platform in search of a broader audience or better conditions on other networks. This calls into question the effectiveness of accelerators as a tool for long-term talent retention. In my view, MegaETH is consciously sacrificing ecosystem scaling in favor of the depth of its own technological development — a strategy that could pay off if their own products truly become in demand by the market.
