Russian banks are on full combat alert: the battle for crypto clients will begin in the "red ocean"

Russia's largest banks have fully completed the preparation of infrastructure for conducting cross-border settlements in cryptocurrency. However, as recent data shows, technical readiness is only half the battle. The market, which is about to open, promises to be an arena of fierce competition, where the advantage will go to whoever is the first to offer clients a working service.

In my assessment, the situation is unique: all players in the "Top 10" are starting from the same technological base. This is a classic "red ocean," where the battle will be not over innovation, but over product speed to market and quality of client service. The winner will not be the one with the best blockchain, but the one who can train their corporate clients faster and offer them clear, legal tools.

Infrastructure is ready, demand is not

The technical part is already a completed stage. All major banks, according to the information I have, are 100% ready to conduct cryptocurrency transactions. The difficulty lies elsewhere: the market needs to be built from scratch. This is reminiscent of the launch of digital financial assets (DFAs), when the infrastructure was ready long before mass demand emerged.

The first clients will be companies already familiar with cryptocurrency: miners and importers working with jurisdictions where the level of digital asset adoption is higher. However, for the ordinary corporate sector, a lengthy immersion will be required—from explaining pricing principles to comparing new tools with familiar banking products.

Education as the main barrier

The key problem banks will face is low client awareness. Many companies will literally have to be taught "from scratch" what cryptocurrency is, how to use it, and why it is safe. In the initial stages, the return on such efforts will be minimal, but without this stage, it is impossible to build sustainable demand.

My analysis: The crypto settlement market in Russia is not a technological challenge, but a marketing one. Banks that can offer not just technical functionality, but a full-fledged educational program for businesses, will gain a decisive advantage. Competition will be tough, but it is precisely in such conditions that leaders emerge. The first swallows are already ready for takeoff, and we are in for a fascinating battle for corporate clients' wallets.
