Morgan Stanley expands its crypto lineup: launches trusts for Ethereum and Solana

A major player from Wall Street is taking another step into the world of digital assets. Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) has officially launched two new exchange-traded products — trusts for Ethereum and Solana. The company now manages instruments tied to the prices of ETH and SOL, which trade on the NYSE Arca platform under the tickers MSSE and MSOL, respectively.

This is a logical continuation of the strategy initiated earlier this year with the launch of a Bitcoin trust. That product has already accumulated over $381 million in assets under management as of July 16, 2026. The new trusts do not simply replicate the performance of the underlying assets — they also provide for a partial allocation of assets to staking. All income from staking will be fully passed on to holders, with MSIM itself retaining no share. The management fee is set at 0.14%, which, according to the company, is part of a competitive digital product lineup.

Why This Matters for the Market

The expansion of the product lineup to include three major cryptocurrencies — Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana — signals growing institutional demand. MSIM emphasizes that the decision is driven by client requests, who are increasingly seeking access to decentralized assets through familiar exchange-traded instruments. Head of ETF Strategy Ellie Wallace called the launch of the trusts a "natural evolution of the lineup," while Head of Digital Asset Strategy Amy Oldenburg noted that the company aims to help investors diversify portfolios between traditional and digital assets.

Importantly, MSIM operates within Morgan Stanley's strict internal standards for management, infrastructure, and risk control. The company's scale is impressive: over 1,300 investment professionals and approximately $2 trillion in assets under management and supervision. Such backing lends additional weight and credibility to the new products.

My expert opinion: The launch of trusts for Ethereum and Solana is not just an expansion of the product range, but a clear signal to the market. Morgan Stanley is not merely observing cryptocurrencies but actively integrating them into its products, recognizing their long-term value. The inclusion of staking is particularly noteworthy, making these instruments more attractive for yield-generating strategies. For Solana, in particular, this is a powerful vote of confidence that could attract new capital into the ecosystem.
