Tether and the Nairobi Stock Exchange launch a pilot for tokenization of securities

The largest stablecoin issuer Tether has officially announced a strategic partnership with the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE). Under the signed memorandum of understanding, the parties intend to jointly explore opportunities for tokenizing securities, as well as develop blockchain infrastructure for Kenya's capital market.
A key element of the collaboration will be the evaluation of the Hadron platform — Tether's proprietary solution for issuing and circulating tokenized assets. Additionally, the implementation of instant settlement mechanisms is planned, which could dramatically accelerate post-trading processes in the African market. Special attention is given to using the USDT stablecoin as a settlement layer — this will reduce transaction costs and increase liquidity.
The partnership also includes educational initiatives for local market participants, aimed at enhancing competencies in the field of digital assets. For Kenya, where the unbanked population exceeds 40%, such projects could serve as a catalyst for financial inclusion.
Analytical Commentary
Tokenization of traditional securities on the blockchain is not just a trend, but a logical stage in the evolution of financial markets. Tether, possessing colossal USDT liquidity ($100+ billion), seeks to position itself not merely as a stablecoin issuer, but as a full-fledged infrastructure player. The pilot in Nairobi is a touchstone for scaling the model to other emerging markets. If the mechanism of instant settlements and tokenization via Hadron proves its effectiveness, we will witness a new standard for stock exchanges in Africa and Asia.
