Topping up a cryptocurrency account is one of the first steps every trader or investor encounters. In my practice, I see that many beginners make mistakes at this stage, leading to unnecessary fees or delays. Let's break down the main methods I recommend to my clients.

1. Bank Transfer

The most reliable method for large amounts. Depending on the exchange's jurisdiction, the transfer can take from a few hours to 3-5 business days. Fees are usually fixed (from 1 to 5 US dollars) or absent altogether if you use SEPA or SWIFT. Note: some platforms require verification before the first deposit.

2. Cryptocurrency Deposit

If you already have assets on another wallet or exchange, transferring USDT, BTC, or ETH is the fastest option. Bitcoin network transactions can take 10–60 minutes, while Ethereum (ERC-20) network transactions take 2 to 10 minutes. The fee depends on network congestion: for ETH it is currently about 0.5–2 dollars, for BTC — 1–5 dollars. Always check whether the exchange supports the selected network (e.g., TRC-20 or BEP-20) to avoid losing funds.

3. P2P Trading

This method is gaining popularity, especially in regions with limited access to banking services. You buy cryptocurrency directly from another user through a fiat gateway. Risks are minimal if you use an escrow service. The average transaction time is 5–15 minutes, with a platform fee of 0.5–1%.

4. Credit/Debit Cards

An instant method, but with high fees (2–5% of the amount). Suitable for small amounts (up to 1000 dollars). Visa and Mastercard cards are accepted almost everywhere, but some issuers block transactions to crypto exchanges. I recommend checking the limits with your bank in advance.

My professional advice: For regular deposits, use bank transfer or P2P — these are the most cost-effective. Cryptocurrency deposits are best left for transfers between exchanges, and cards only for emergencies. Always check the minimum deposit amounts and fees on the specific platform, as they may vary.
