Meme coin JIMOTHY surged 331%: another signal from Elon Musk or pure hype?

The meme coin Jimothy The Raccoon (JIMOTHY), launched on the Solana blockchain, has demonstrated an impressive 331% surge within just a few hours. The cause was a video featuring a raccoon, posted by Elon Musk on his X account on August 7.

Market attention is once again focused on the phenomenon of Elon Musk's posts influencing the cryptocurrency market. This time, the trigger for the rally was seemingly simple content — a video with a raccoon that the billionaire posted on Saturday morning. The video's author turned out to be Dogan Ural, a designer and creative ambassador for xAI, a company focused on artificial intelligence development. Notably, Musk did not directly mention the JIMOTHY token, yet the market instantly picked up on the signal.

Rally Details

Within a few hours, the post garnered over 811,000 views, sparking a wave of buying. At the peak of activity, the JIMOTHY price reached $0.0162, and the market capitalization soared to $16.2 million. The daily trading volume meanwhile amounted to an impressive $25.4 million — a remarkable figure for an asset with such a market cap.

The token itself was created on the Pump.fun platform in July 2026 by an anonymous team of developers who named the meme coin after a raccoon from Seattle. The animal's story had already gone viral previously, providing the coin with a certain foundation for growth. In the first days after launch, the price rose approximately 52-fold, and another notable spike occurred after the raccoon was mentioned on the White House account.

Musk as a Market Maker

Elon Musk's influence on the meme coin market can hardly be overstated. This is not the first time his posts have led to explosive growth in digital assets. Recall October 2025, when a video featuring him and mentioning Grok triggered a roughly 30% rise in FLOKI. Similar surges were observed after a post with the nickname "Dogefather," a username change to Gorklon Rust, and other messages from the businessman.

Each time, the mechanics are the same: audience attention shifts to a specific asset, provoking short-term hype that fades just as quickly as it begins.

JIMOTHY remains a token with micro-capitalization, whose price is driven not by fundamental value but solely by community sentiment. Whether the upward trend persists will depend on trading volumes and the ability to retain network attention. In such situations, extreme caution is crucial: high volatility and the absence of real value make such assets extremely risky for long-term investments.

My analysis: Such rallies are a classic example of the "Musk effect," which turns random mentions into trading signals. However, for institutional investors, this is more an indicator of market euphoria than a reason to enter. Retail traders should remember: every such surge is followed by a correction, and only a few manage to catch the perfect exit point.
