Memecoin JIMOTHY surged 331%: the Elon Musk effect is in action once again

The Solana-based memecoin Jimothy The Raccoon (JIMOTHY) demonstrated an impressive 331% surge in just a few hours. The reason was a video featuring a raccoon posted on Elon Musk's X page on August 7.

This is yet another confirmation that Musk's posts remain a powerful catalyst for speculative assets. Previously, his posts and even a profile name change on X had already triggered explosive growth in various memecoins.

Reason Behind Jimothy The Raccoon (JIMOTHY) Surge

On Saturday morning, Musk posted a video of a raccoon created by Dogan Ural, a designer and creative ambassador for xAI, the company focused on artificial intelligence developments. Within hours, the post garnered over 811,000 views. Notably, the billionaire did not directly mention the JIMOTHY token.

At the time of analysis, JIMOTHY was trading at $0.0162. The asset's market capitalization jumped to $16.2 million in a short period, while daily trading volume reached $25.4 million. This dynamic clearly demonstrates how sensitive the market is to news triggers associated with key industry figures.

The memecoin itself was launched on the Pump.fun platform in July 2026. Anonymous developers named it after a raccoon from Seattle that went viral. In the first days after launch, the token's price surged approximately 52-fold as the animal's story spread across the internet. Another notable spike occurred after the White House account mentioned the raccoon.

Musk's Influence on Memecoins

Musk has been influencing the memecoin market for several years, affecting multiple tokens at once. In October 2025, his video with Grok boosted FLOKI by around 30%. Similar surges have happened before: after a post with the nickname "Dogefather," a name change to Gorklon Rust, and other Musk posts. Each time, the price rally ended when the audience shifted attention to something else.

JIMOTHY remains a micro-cap token: its price is driven not by fundamentals but by community sentiment. Whether the growth persists depends on trading volumes and online attention.

My expert take: Stories like this are a classic example of "narrative economics" in cryptocurrencies. Tokens fueled by a single tweet almost always return to their initial levels once the hype fades. This is an opportunity for short-term speculators, but for long-term investors, it is a high-risk zone. Always assess liquidity and genuine community interest before entering such positions.
