The meme coin Jimothy The Raccoon surged by 331%: the "Musk effect" worked again.

Solana meme coin Jimothy The Raccoon (JIMOTHY) demonstrated an impressive 331% surge in just a few hours. The reason was a fresh post by Elon Musk on social media platform X, where he published a video of a raccoon. This is yet another confirmation that the billionaire's posts continue to have a direct impact on the altcoin market, especially on the meme coin segment.

On August 7, Musk posted a video of a raccoon that instantly went viral. The video's author turned out to be Dogan Ural, a designer and creative ambassador for xAI, a company focused on artificial intelligence development. The post garnered over 811,000 views within hours. Notably, the post itself contained no mention of the JIMOTHY token — traders and bots reacted to the meme on their own, instantly driving up the asset's price.

Growth and Market Capitalization

At the time of analysis, JIMOTHY was trading at $0.0162. The asset's market capitalization jumped to $16.2 million in a short period, while daily trading volume reached $25.4 million. Such dynamics are typical of meme coins launched on the Pump.fun platform, where liquidity and interest are formed solely through hype and attention from major influencers.

The token itself was launched in July 2026. Anonymous developers named it after a real raccoon from Seattle. This is not the first surge: in the first days after launch, the price rose approximately 52 times when the animal's story spread across the internet. Another notable spike occurred after the raccoon itself was mentioned on the White House's account.

The Pattern of the "Musk Effect"

Musk's influence on meme coins has been evident for several years. For example, in October 2025, his video with Grok triggered a roughly 30% rise in FLOKI. Similar surges have happened before: after a post with the nickname "Dogefather," a username change to Gorklon Rust, and other messages. Each time, the growth proved short-lived — as soon as the audience shifted attention to another news story, prices pulled back.

JIMOTHY remains a micro-cap asset whose price is driven not by fundamental value but solely by community sentiment. Whether the growth persists will depend on trading volumes and the project's ability to retain network interest.

My analysis: Such spikes are a classic example of "pump and dump" on an emotional level. For short-term speculators, this is an opportunity, but for long-term investors, it is a high-risk zone. Always remember: meme coins without real utility live exactly as long as people are talking about them.
