The crypto market at a crossroads: gold tokenization, ETF withdrawal by Grayscale, and quiet consolidation

Key events overnight: UK regulator FCA is working on a regulatory framework for tokenized gold, Grayscale Investments has withdrawn applications to launch three altcoin ETFs at once, and NYSE has announced the creation of its own platform for settlements on tokenized securities. Meanwhile, the market is showing rare calm, consolidating in narrow ranges.

Leader dynamics: calm before the storm?

Bitcoin (BTC) at the time of analysis, around 08:45 Moscow time, was trading near the $65,027 mark. During the night, the flagship cryptocurrency's quotes made limited fluctuations: after an attempt to rise to $65,400, the price pulled back to $64,800, then stabilized around the psychologically important level of $65,000. Such dynamics indicate the absence of aggressive sentiment on both the buyers' and sellers' sides.

Ether (ETH) followed a similar scenario, holding in the range of $1,905–$1,935 with a base price of about $1,919. Altcoins from the top 10 by market cap also showed minimal volatility: Solana (SOL) gained a modest 1.19%, while Hyperliquid (HYPE) lost 0.68%. This suggests that the market is in an accumulation phase, awaiting a more significant catalyst.

In the top 100 over the week, the token Pump.fun (PUMP) stood out, surging by 38.64%. Notable gains were also seen in LayerZero (ZRO) and Curve DAO Token (CRV), which rose by 20.36% and 19.37%, respectively. Such movements against the backdrop of overall calm often signal growing speculative interest in specific niches.

Institutional vector: gold, ETFs, and infrastructure

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is actively consulting with major banks and industry participants to create a regulatory framework for tokenized gold. The new rules could legalize the use of such tokens as collateral in wholesale markets. Given that London handles about 70% of global gold trading volume, this step looks like a logical effort to improve market efficiency through blockchain technology. Standards are expected to be published in the coming months.

Meanwhile, US investment company Grayscale Investments has withdrawn registration applications for three altcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). According to SEC documents, the company filed Form RW, canceling the S-1 registrations for the Grayscale Cardano Trust ETF, Grayscale Hedera Trust ETF, and Grayscale Polkadot Trust ETF. The reasons for the decision have not been disclosed, but this is not the first time the company has scaled back altcoin initiatives, focusing instead on flagship products, including the spot bitcoin ETF.

President of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Lynn Martin announced the development of an online platform for settlements on tokenized securities. In July, NYSE already participated in a tokenization pilot project organized by the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTC). According to Martin, the exchange is exploring how distributed ledger technology could become the foundational infrastructure for global financial markets and a bridge between traditional finance and DeFi.

My analysis: Grayscale's withdrawal of applications is not a defeat but a pragmatic step. The company is clearly reassessing priorities amid fierce competition for liquidity. Much more important is the signal from NYSE and FCA: institutional tokenization of real assets is moving from the experimental stage into practical application. This is a long-term bullish factor for the entire industry that the market has not yet fully priced in.
