Strategic Maneuver: Strategy sold 1,690 BTC to strengthen capital and buy back STRC

Strategy 2025

Between August 3 and August 9, Strategy, one of the largest institutional holders of bitcoin, conducted a series of operations that may seem contradictory at first glance, but in reality demonstrate a nuanced approach to liquidity management. I have analyzed the latest data from the report filed with the SEC, and I see a clear signal here: the firm is not just hedging risks, but actively restructuring its balance sheet.

During that week, Strategy sold 1,690 BTC, generating $108.6 million in revenue at an average sale price of $64,262 per coin. All of these funds were directed toward buying back its own preferred shares, STRC. This is not a spontaneous decision — such a move allows the company to reduce its debt burden and enhance capital attractiveness for shareholders, especially amid market volatility.

In parallel, the company issued 6.59 million MSTR class shares, raising $653.1 million. Of this amount, $650 million was allocated to increase the dollar reserve, which has now reached $4.65 billion. This is a powerful safety cushion that gives Strategy flexibility for future bitcoin purchases or other strategic investments without resorting to emergency asset sales.

As of August 9, the company holds 840,447 BTC, acquired for $63.36 billion. This means the average cost per coin is approximately $75,400, which is still below current market prices despite the recent correction. The sale of 1,690 BTC represents less than 0.2% of the total portfolio, confirming that the company is not abandoning its bitcoin strategy, but merely optimizing short-term flows.

My analysis: Such operations are a classic sign of a mature institutional approach. Strategy is using the rise in MSTR shares to attract cheap capital while simultaneously reducing STRC liabilities, which lowers interest expenses. In the long term, this strengthens the company's position as a leader in corporate BTC accumulation, and I view this move as a positive signal for the market, despite temporary pressure on the price of the first cryptocurrency.
