Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has made a resonant statement: in the near term, the activity of autonomous AI agents on the network will far surpass human activity. In his view, this is not just a likely scenario, but an inevitable reality that the market must prepare for right now.
Musk publicly supported the forecast of Cloudflare CFO Thomas Seifert. The latter, speaking in a report on second-quarter results, predicted that if current growth rates hold, non-human traffic could exceed user traffic a thousandfold within five years. "People will become just a rounding error in internet statistics," Seifert emphasized, commenting on the scale of the coming changes.
Notably, reality is outpacing even the boldest expectations. Initially, Cloudflare assumed that machine traffic would surpass human traffic only by 2027. However, this milestone was already reached in May 2026. Such acceleration points to the explosive adoption of agentic technologies in everyday digital processes.
Economic impact: trillions of dollars under algorithmic control
The influence of AI agents extends far beyond web analytics. According to ARK Invest estimates, by 2030 agents will account for about 25% of all digital spending, whereas in 2025 this figure barely reached 2%. This involves colossal sums: by the end of the decade, autonomous systems could process up to $8 trillion in online commerce.
These figures are also confirmed by independent research. The HUMAN Security report for 2026 records an eightfold excess in the growth rate of automated traffic over user traffic. Meanwhile, from January to December 2025, the monthly volume of traffic from AI agents grew by 187%, with 95% of all activity concentrated in three sectors: retail and e-commerce, streaming and media, as well as tourism and hospitality.
Imperva data shows that in 2025, 53% of all web traffic came from automated requests. Fastly, in turn, estimates the share of bots in January 2026 at 49%, with 99% of them recognized by services as unwanted. These figures paint a picture of a radical transformation of the digital economy.
Analytical commentary: For the crypto industry, this trend has a dual meaning. On the one hand, the growth of the agentic economy opens a giant market for microtransactions and machine payments, where blockchain solutions could become the foundation for settlements between AIs. On the other hand, we stand on the threshold of an era where verification of "humanity" and protection against unwanted bots will become critically important assets, which could radically change the landscape of digital security and identification.
