This is no longer about gradual evolution, but a tectonic change that will overturn our understanding of who the primary user of the network is. Elon Musk, commenting on the latest forecasts from Cloudflare CFO Thomas Seifert, gave an unequivocal assessment: the dominance of non-human traffic is not a question of probability, but an inevitable scenario for our near future.
Seifert, summing up the second quarter, shared truly shocking figures. According to his calculations, if current growth rates persist, within five years the volume of traffic from AI agents could exceed user traffic by a thousand times. In his metaphor, human activity on the network will become a "statistical margin of error"—so insignificant will it become against the backdrop of the machine data flow.
It is worth noting that reality has already surpassed the boldest expectations of analysts. Not long ago, Cloudflare predicted that machine traffic would overtake human traffic only by 2027. However, this milestone was reached much earlier—already in May 2026. This fact clearly demonstrates how rapidly this trend is developing.
The impact of AI agents extends far beyond simple web surfing. According to ARK forecasts, by 2030 agents will account for nearly 25% of all digital spending, whereas in 2025 this figure was only about 2%. We are talking about colossal sums—by the end of the decade, agents could process up to $8 trillion in the online commerce sector.
Independent data confirms the trend
My own observations of reports from leading cybersecurity companies only reinforce confidence in this scenario. The HUMAN Security report for 2026 shows that automated traffic is growing eight times faster than user traffic. Over 2025, the monthly volume of traffic from AI agents grew by 187%, with more than 95% of this flow coming from three key sectors: retail and e-commerce, streaming and media, as well as tourism and hospitality.
Imperva's data from the Bad Bot Report 2026 is even more telling: in 2025, 53% of all web traffic came from automated requests. Fastly, in turn, records that bots accounted for 49% of all requests in January 2026, with 99% of them being deemed undesirable by services.
From the perspective of the cryptocurrency and blockchain market, this trend opens new horizons. The growth of AI agents will inevitably lead to increased demand for microtransactions and automated payment solutions, where cryptocurrencies could play a key role. However, it is important to understand: we are witnessing not just an evolution of technologies, but a shift in the very paradigm of the internet, where the human factor is gradually giving way to algorithms. Investors should closely monitor projects capable of providing the infrastructure for this new machine internet.
