Strategic Maneuver: Strategy reduces BTC reserve to buy back STRC
Between August 3 and 9, my analysis recorded an unusual move by Strategy that many in the market may have overlooked. The company sold 1,690 BTC, directing all proceeds to buy back its own preferred shares, STRC. This decision is not just a routine operation but a signal of fine-tuned capital management that we rarely see among public bitcoin holders.
According to my calculations, the revenue from the sale amounted to $108.6 million at an average price of $64,262 per coin. It is important to emphasize that this level turned out to be below current market quotes, indicating a pre-agreed strategy rather than a spontaneous reaction to volatility. In parallel, Strategy placed 6.59 million MSTR shares, raising $653.1 million, of which $650 million was directed toward strengthening its dollar reserve to $4.65 billion.
Balance and Position
As of August 9, the company holds 840,447 BTC, acquired for a total of $63.36 billion. This means the average cost of its position is approximately $75,400 per bitcoin — given current prices, the company is still in a profit zone, but with less margin of safety than at the start of the year.
In my view, the STRC buyback is a signal of a shift toward shareholder value at the expense of aggressive accumulation. In conditions where the market expects constant purchases from Strategy, such a maneuver could be perceived as a bearish factor. However, I regard this as a tactical redistribution of liquidity that will allow the company to maintain flexibility for future large acquisitions without diluting its debt burden.
The key intrigue remains the question: will Strategy stop at what it has achieved or use its fresh dollar reserve for a new round of purchases in the coming weeks. Judging by the dynamics of recent months, I lean toward the second scenario, but with a caveat — the company is now acting more cautiously than during its period of maximalist accumulation.
My conclusion: this move underscores Strategy's maturity as an institutional player learning to balance growth in its BTC holdings with capital protection. For long-term holders, this is more of a positive sign than a reason for panic.
