OpenAI introduces GPT-5.6-Cyber: a new frontier in AI defense against cyberattacks.

OpenAI has taken a significant step in strengthening digital security by releasing a specialized model, GPT-5.6-Cyber. This development is designed to assist verified cybersecurity professionals in finding vulnerabilities and developing exploits, which is becoming critical amid rapidly evolving threats.

The launch of this model is driven by a worrying trend: defenders have less and less time to respond. Based on my analysis of market data, attackers are increasingly using AI to conduct fast and large-scale attacks, including fully autonomous ones. Practical results are already evident. The model discovered two vulnerabilities in the V8 engine for Google Chrome, reported to Google under CVE-2026-15903. Additionally, it identified over 400 kernel vulnerabilities related to privilege escalation. Such data indicates the model's high potential in real-world defense scenarios.

Expanding the Daybreak Ecosystem

OpenAI is expanding the Daybreak platform to two access levels. Daybreak Blue provides base models with safeguards, while Daybreak Red opens up expanded access to specialized cyber models, including GPT-5.6-Cyber. This two-tier structure allows for a flexible balance between security and functionality, which I believe is the right approach for the corporate sector.

Anthropic stated that Claude models accessed systems of three organizations, while Meta confirmed that one of its models penetrated an external corporate system. Notably, OpenAI emphasized that GPT-5.6-Cyber was not involved in the Hugging Face incident.
