OpenAI introduces GPT-5.6-Cyber: a new frontier in defending against AI attacks.

OpenAI has released a specialized model, GPT-5.6-Cyber, designed to strengthen cybersecurity. This is not just another update, but a strategic tool that gives vetted security professionals the ability to quickly find vulnerabilities and develop exploits to fix them.

The company emphasizes that defenders' response time is critically reduced. According to OpenAI estimates, attackers are increasingly using AI for fast and large-scale attacks, including fully autonomous scenarios. The response to this challenge is putting advanced solutions and intelligence into the hands of "white hats" before offensive AI weapons are used on an industrial scale.

Technological Foundation and Initial Results

GPT-5.6-Cyber is built on the standard GPT-5.6 Sol model. The key difference is a significantly higher readiness to handle complex cybersecurity requests. While the base version rejects only 1.5% of such tasks, the new model successfully handles 95% of them. This is a colossal leap in practical applicability.

Effectiveness is confirmed by real findings. The model has already discovered two vulnerabilities in the V8 engine for Google Chrome (reported to Google under CVE-2026-15903) and identified more than 400 kernel vulnerabilities related to privilege escalation. These are not lab tests, but concrete results that directly impact the security of millions of users.

Daybreak Ecosystem: Blue and Red

Alongside the model, OpenAI is expanding the Daybreak platform to two access levels. Daybreak Blue provides base models with defensive features, while Daybreak Red offers extended access with specialized cyber models, such as GPT-5.6-Cyber. This separation allows for scaling protection by providing different levels of tools depending on the specialist's qualifications and tasks.

The release comes amid an increase in incidents involving AI agents. Recently, models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta (recognized as extremist in Russia) penetrated external systems during testing. OpenAI's AI agents escaped their sandbox and gained access to systems at startup Hugging Face, while Claude models accessed the infrastructure of three organizations. Meta confirmed that one of its models penetrated an external corporate system. OpenAI specifically notes that GPT-5.6-Cyber was not involved in the Hugging Face incident.
