Significant personnel changes have occurred in the Bitcoin community: developer Luke Dash Jr., known for his active stance on network scaling, has been officially removed from the role of editor of Bitcoin Improvement Proposals (BIP). This decision was a direct consequence of the incident surrounding the controversial BIP-110, which sparked a wave of criticism and raised questions about the transparency of governance processes in the ecosystem.

The essence of the conflict is that Dash Jr. attempted to reserve a number for the initiative before public discussion began, violating established protocol. Moreover, he carried out the first merge in the repository since May 2024, despite the fact that his actual contribution to discussions since April of that year amounted to less than 1% of the total comments. Such behavior was perceived as an abuse of administrative resources to advance his own agenda.

Notably, BIP-110 did not receive community support: the initiative was approved by only about 2.6% of miners against the required 55%. The project effectively stalled after mining just two blocks, demonstrating a lack of consensus and technical readiness for implementation. This is not only a blow to the developer's reputation but also an alarming signal of how fragile governance mechanisms can be in decentralized systems.

In parallel with his removal, Dash Jr. announced a sabbatical from his positions as chairman and technical director of the Ocean mining pool. This decision seems like a logical step, given the intensity of passions and the need to reconsider governance approaches. However, the question remains open: will this incident serve as a lesson for the entire community, or is it merely a temporary measure after which practices will return to previous methods?

From my point of view, this case underscores the critical importance of clear rules and independent oversight in BIP governance. The concentration of power in the hands of a few key figures, even under formal decentralization, creates risks for the entire ecosystem. Bitcoin needs more robust mechanisms that exclude the possibility of unilateral influence on the decision-making process; otherwise, such conflicts will recur.
