Trump Media posts $238 million loss and revises crypto strategy: bitcoin reserves continue to grow

Trump Трамп криптовалюты 2025

Trump Media's financial results for the second quarter came under pressure: the company's net loss reached $238 million. The main factor was unrealized losses on digital assets and related securities, which amounted to $190.4 million. Nevertheless, management did not abandon accumulating the first cryptocurrency, but rather increased its positions.

According to my analysis of the report, as of June 30, the company held 9,477.16 BTC under management. By July 31, this figure had already grown to 12,062 BTC, indicating a deliberate strategy of building bitcoin reserves despite market volatility. This approach looks paradoxical against the backdrop of statements about revising the digital treasury strategy.

Focus on the core business

Trump Media's management announced its intention to redirect more resources into core media assets, including the Truth Social, Truth+, and Truth.Fi platforms. This is a logical step: the company is trying to stabilize its operations and reduce dependence on speculative fluctuations in the crypto market. However, a complete abandonment of digital assets, judging by the dynamics of BTC purchases, is not planned.

It is important to note that unrealized losses are temporary in nature and directly depend on market conditions. If the price of bitcoin recovers, these losses may be offset, creating potential for improved financial results in subsequent reporting periods.

My expert view: Trump Media's situation reflects a broader trend among public companies balancing between hype-driven crypto investments and the need to demonstrate sustainable profits to shareholders. Increasing BTC reserves while simultaneously publicly revising strategy is more of an attempt to hedge risks and maintain flexibility than a rejection of digital assets. In the long term, this approach may prove justified if the company can convert volatility into a competitive advantage.
