Trump Media posts $238 million loss and revises crypto strategy: bitcoin bet remains

Trump Трамп криптовалюты 2025

Trump Media's quarterly report came under pressure: the company's net loss reached $238 million. This is prompting management to reconsider its approach to managing digital reserves, while simultaneously focusing efforts on developing key media products — Truth Social, Truth+, and Truth.Fi.

Unrealized losses and growth of the BTC position

The main factor behind the loss was unrealized losses on digital assets and related securities, amounting to $190.4 million. However, notably, despite the volatility, the company not only held but also increased its holdings of the leading cryptocurrency. As of June 30, it managed 9,477.16 BTC, and by July 31, this figure had grown to 12,062 BTC.

Such behavior points to a strategic, rather than speculative, approach to bitcoin. Buying more during a downturn is a classic sign of long-term vision, albeit one accompanied by a high level of risk for shareholders.

Refocusing on the core business

Management has stated its intention to revise the digital treasury strategy, shifting focus toward core media assets. This is a logical step: diversification through cryptocurrencies has not yet delivered the expected stability, and the core business requires resources to compete in a saturated information landscape.

Nevertheless, a complete abandonment of bitcoin is not being considered — it is more a matter of balancing. The company clearly believes in BTC's long-term potential but is trying to minimize short-term disruptions to its operations.

My view: The Trump Media situation is a telling case for all public companies entering the crypto industry. Mark-to-market losses are inevitable amid high volatility, but the ability to hold and grow bitcoin positions speaks to strong faith in its future. However, shareholders should be prepared for such fluctuations to recur, and it is crucial that the media business generates sufficient cash flow to cover these risks.
