Trump Media is revisiting its crypto strategy: a $238 million loss and a bet on bitcoin

Trump Трамп криптовалюты 2025

Analyzing Trump Media's latest financial figures, I see a troubling signal: the company's net loss for the second quarter amounted to $238 million. This is prompting management to radically rethink its approach to managing digital reserves. Instead of aggressively accumulating crypto assets, the focus is shifting to strengthening the core media segment — Truth Social, Truth+, and Truth.Fi.

The key pressure factor is unrealized losses on digital assets and related securities, which reached $190.4 million. This is a classic story of volatility: paper losses that do not reflect a real outflow of liquidity but significantly affect investor perception and reporting.

However, despite such significant write-downs, the company is not just holding its ground but expanding it. As of June 30, it held 9,477.16 BTC under management, and by July 31, the reserve had grown to 12,062 BTC. That is an increase of nearly 27% in a month — an obvious signal that the long-term bet on bitcoin remains intact, even if the short-term "digital treasury" strategy is undergoing revision.

In my view, a dual logic is at play here: on the one hand, management is publicly distancing itself from crypto risks to reassure shareholders accustomed to traditional media metrics. On the other, the actual accumulation of BTC demonstrates confidence in the asset's growth over a 12-24 month horizon. The strategy overhaul will likely not involve abandoning bitcoin but rather implementing stricter hedging and diversification to avoid repeating the $190 million losses in the next reporting period.
