Trump Media reports a $238 million loss and revises its crypto strategy: bitcoin reserves continue to grow

Trump Media's financial results for the second quarter came under pressure: the net loss amounted to $238 million. The main factor was unrealized losses on digital assets and related securities, reaching $190.4 million. This is a serious signal for the market, given that the company was actively building up its cryptocurrency reserves over the past few months.

Management stated its intention to revise its approach to the digital treasury, shifting the focus to developing the core media business — the Truth Social, Truth+, and Truth.Fi platforms. However, despite the announced strategy adjustment, the company not only did not reduce but actually increased its bitcoin positions. As of June 30, it held 9,477.16 BTC under management, and by July 31, the figure had grown to 12,062 BTC.

Such dynamics look paradoxical against the backdrop of losses. On the one hand, this may indicate long-term confidence in the growth of the first cryptocurrency; on the other, it creates additional volatility risks for the company's balance sheet. In conditions where media assets require stable financing, dependence on the crypto market remains significant.

My view: the decision to buy more bitcoin even after such significant write-downs suggests that management views BTC as a strategic reserve rather than a speculative instrument. However, for investors, this is a double signal — the potential return from cryptocurrency growth is coupled with a high cost of error in the event of a correction. The revision of treasury policy will likely mean stricter risk control, but a complete abandonment of crypto assets in the near term is unlikely.
