OpenGradient CEO accuses BitMart of insolvency: team assets frozen

Matthew Wang, co-founder and CEO of OpenGradient, has publicly stated that his marketing team's funds have been blocked on the BitMart trading platform. In his statement, he directly called the exchange insolvent, which came as an unexpected blow to the reputation of one of the market's oldest players.
Based on my information, the incident developed rapidly. Approximately a week before the official announcement of the cessation of operations, BitMart allegedly requested token holders to voluntarily lock their assets. Formally, this was presented as a measure to attract additional liquidity, but in reality, judging by Wang's words, the platform used this step to mask its financial problems.
An alarm signal for the entire market
The situation with BitMart is not an isolated case but a systemic symptom. When an exchange asks users to freeze funds "for liquidity," it is almost always a sign that it has problems covering its obligations. In my practice, such requests rarely end positively for clients.
For OpenGradient, which positions itself as an innovative project in the field of decentralized computing, losing access to its marketing budget is a serious operational blow. However, what matters even more is that this event undermines trust in centralized platforms that continue to operate without a transparent reserve system.
At this point, BitMart has not provided an official denial or a detailed plan for returning funds. Wang, for his part, is calling on other exchange clients to check the status of their accounts and does not rule out legal action. I expect that in the coming days we will see a wave of similar complaints from other projects that may have been affected by this same situation.
My professional advice: if your assets are on a centralized exchange that suddenly asks you to lock them, that is a red flag. Immediately withdraw your funds and document all communications with the platform. The market is currently too fragile to trust verbal promises.
